4-H Projects Involved In:
Throughout my time in 4-H, I have actively sought out the variety of experiences that have shaped my character, my passions, and the way I interact in a community. I have pursued projects that make both meaningful interpersonal contributions and promote growth in myself like STEM, Robotics, Community Service, and Career Readiness.
In STEM and Robotics, I have not only found my career passions and learned extensively about what that may look like, I have learned how to work collaboratively under pressure, developed invaluable problem solving skills, and grown as a teacher and communicator. These projects have challenged me to think critically, collaborate under pressure, and to make accessible to all, in the same way it was for me, the resources to succeed and the education that precedes it.
It is through 4-H that I have discovered a passion for engineering and robotics, and so, it is also 4-H that has equipped me to take the notion seriously. As a 4-H STEM Ambassador, I have found there is no better way to learn than to teach. I have helped to lead and organize the Lynn County 4-H STEM Club, mentoring younger members, and making sure the same doors that once were held open for me remain wide open for those who come after me. Through community service, I have learned the importance of work that fulfills others and its likeness to the work that fulfills me. Community service, although requiring sacrifice, builds up all parties far beyond the original investment. Those of us who hold the responsibility to serve are temporary, the community it builds far outlasts even the greatest among us.
Finally, my project in Career Readiness has given me the framework to pursue my goals intentionally. I have been challenged to think seriously about the future that I want to hold and how to make that a reality. I've worked to ready myself for my future careers but through that path, I've also readied myself to be the best person I can possibly be and to not stop there. my responsibility and my work ethic were not developed in a vacuum,. No, I developed thee skills when I discovered how they may be able to benefit me, my teams, my goals, and every opportunity that presents itself. In this, I have not simply worked on myself or my projects, I've worked toward a future.
Leadership Experiences:
As a leader, I have grown. Likewise, as a person, my world has grown around me. Junior Leader Lab, on the district level, is where I first understood the meaning of being a leader. It is not the commands that I can bark, to which a kid rarely listens. It is about the influence we hold. In this experience, I did not simply lead a group to activities but I left a lasting impression. The most lasting impressions come from the genuine investment in the people served.
At the county level, leading in a STEM Club and serving at Carpenter's Kitchen, I have learned what leadership among people that were far from strangers, but those I'd known for years, people who had expectations of me, and expectations to overcome. There are no new impressions to act as a protection. Instead, every time I serve my community, I must uphold and surpass a certain standard. These standards keep me working towards something better. No new environment can sharpen quite like an old one. It is far easier to lead in a new environment, among people who have never known my name, than among people who do.
At the state level, Night at NASA placed me among leaders just like myself, and in many ways, quite unlike myself. At Night at NASA, I represent not only my county and my district, but, in light of the trust and responsibility placed on me, my state as well. I've found, though it may be challenging to uphold a standard in the face of my state, it is one I hold with great fondness. On the County Council, I hold myself not to county standards alone but to standards that hold our county to the greatest of the state.
5 Qualities They Possess to Contribute to an Officer Position:
The five most important qualities I can bring to the Lynn County Council are leadership, service, character, teamwork, and a strong commitment to personal and interpersonal growth.
First, I believe that leadership is one of the most essential qualities for this position, and it is one I have dedicated myself to developing. I am eager to step up whenever and wherever my leadership is needed, whether that means planning and leading a meeting, serving at an event, or simply being a present and encouraging voice to my fellow members. My journey in 4-H Leadership began when I was first asked to serve at Whiteface's STEM Night. From that moment, I knew leadership and STEM were passions of mine worth pursuing.
Second, 4-H to me, far from the belt buckles and competitions, is the service that I can provide. I don't seek service to fulfill hours, I seek it out because I am genuinely fulfilled in these environments. My favorite memories from 4-H come from my time at Carpenter's Kitchen in Lubbock, where I have learned that meaning comes not from what I stand to gain, rather from what I may stand to give.
Third, character may be one of the hardest qualities to teach but most important to truly possess. I believe character is best demonstrated not through the success of those that hold it but through their failure. When I first applied to the STEM Ambassadors, a naive eighth grader, I did not make the team. This did not defeat me though, instead, I was motivated to work harder, grow more resilient, and come back better. I earned my current place on the STEM Ambassador team and have since spent much of my time working to serve people. My experiences have set me down a path of honesty, humility, and the conviction that setbacks should never be taken as stop signs. It is that conviction that I intend to bring to the County Council.
Fourth, teamwork is a skill that cannot be well rehearsed, on the contrary, teamwork comes naturally, or it doesn't come at all. This is a skill that 4-H has uniquely prepared me well for. In Agrobotics, the only way to succeed is by tackling the mystery challenges. There is no prior briefing for these challenges, it is on us as a team to figure them out on the spot. The only resources we have beforehand to complete these challenges is our determination and a willingness to solve problems on the spot. That is the kind of team member I am, and the type of council member I will be.
The fifth and final quality is what drives me to uphold all my other qualities and more. If there were no more room for growth, there would be no reason to continue working to achieve bigger and better things for my community and myself. Growth is what pushes me to solve problems with a clear mind, to spend my time in my community and to put myself work at all times, and to live in a better way through it all because that, after all, is the lesson that 4-H has gifted me.
Why do you want to be a County Council Officer?
Because doors were opened for me, I too want to open doors. Opportunities presented themselves, and a drive to take hold of them was borne. My mentors took me far and taught me how to go even farther. I want to be a County Council Officer to give back and lead in the same way those who preceded me gave. When opportunities presented themselves, it was not because of the opportunity, but because of the people who advocated for that. I want to be that same advocate wherever I can, whether it be when serving in Carpenter's Kitchen or leading at County Council, there is a genuine passion and commitment I hold towards service focused leadership. My character has been shaped, my leadership sharpened, and my community has been served in pursuit of a common goal. I invest because those before me believed this was something worth investing in. I too believe that, I believe County Council is one place that I can make that investment.

I am a quiet leader. I choose to lead by example and am not always so vocal with what I do. I like to include others and encourage them to participate and find ways to be involved in 4-H and find what they like to do. I have been in 4-H since I was in 3rd grade and had many role models throughout the years. As I approach my junior year, I would like to take my own characteristics and what I have learned by others and lead in my own way. There are so many activities available in 4-H, you just have to know where to look. I want to be an example of that. I also want to find ways to meet people where they are and let them know they can still be involved with 4-H even if the times and dates don't always work out for them. It's hard for me, too, to get to meetings, but that is what makes 4-H leaders so special: they are leaders in all aspects of their lives.
