There are no contest fees for the Lynn County Food Show.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1st and 2nd places in each category in each age group will advance to the District 2 Food Show on November 4th.
The county food show will be conducted like the District Food Show. Please see the information below.

CLOVER KIDS
We encourage our Clover Kids to participate in this contest!
They will not be judged, but will be given the opportunity to have an interview with a judge. This is to introduce our Clovers to the interview experience so that it is easier when they get to be 4-H'ers.
Recipes do not need to fit in a certain category or theme.
Examples of interview questions will be emailed to those who sign up.
Clover Kids do not compete beyond the county level.

CONTEST FEES
$15 per person
If you sold 10 or more raffle tickets in 2025 or are a first-year 4-H'er, then your fees are covered by the Lynn County Adult Leaders Association. If you register for the contest but do not end up competing, then you will be responsible for reimbursing your entry fee and will receive an invoice from Lynn County 4-H.
If you did not sell raffle tickets, then you will be responsible for paying your entry fee. You will receive an invoice from Lynn County 4-H. If you end up not competing, then you are still responsible for paying the entry fee. Those fees are not returned once registration has been completed.
Invoices will be sent through Square.
Payments may be made via

INFORMATION
PLEASE REFER TO THE PARTICIPANT GUIDE!!!
Recipes should fit in this year's theme, Food Truck Favorites.
Categories: Appetizer, Main Dish, Side Dish, and Healthy Dessert.
Recipes should fit in one of the categories.
If you need any kind of accommodations to compete in this contest, please email Kaci no later than October 1.
If you need a specific judging time, please email Kaci no later than October 1. Requests made after that date will be not honored.
Any 4-H'er can compete in Consumer Decision Making that day.
All recipes will be compiled into a Food Show Recipe Booklet, which will be available to purchase for $5.00. Proceeds benefit the District 2 EXCELL program.
SENIORS ONLY--the first places in each category advance to the Texas 4-H Food Show held during Roundup in June at College Station.
4-H'ers competing will be excused from school on Monday, November 3. The Extension Office will notify the school.
The Extension Office will also check grades to make sure all participants are eligible according to UIL rules.

DISTRICT COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
There will be a Community Service Fair held in conjunction with both contests. Information to come!

EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS & DISPLAYS
Any 4-H'er is invited to set up a Food & Nutrition-related educational exhibit/display, whether they participate in the Food Show or not.
These can be individual, group, or county entries.
Each exhibitor must provide a table or easel. Card tables are great!
Displays will not be judged. This is a DISTRICT LEADERSHIP opportunity!
There is no fee to have an exhibit.

THEME
Food Truck Favorites
Get ready to fire up your creativity and cooking skills for the Texas 4-H Food Show, featuring the exciting theme “Food Truck Favorites!” From gourmet tacos to sizzling stir-fries and mouthwatering health-inspired desserts, food trucks bring bold flavors and innovative dishes to the streets—now it’s your turn to bring that energy to the kitchen! Participants will showcase their culinary talents by preparing dishes inspired by popular food truck fare. Whether it’s a globally inspired street food dish, a classic American favorite with a twist, or a fusion creation all your own, this competition challenges 4-H members to explore diverse flavors, unique ingredients, and creative presentation. This event is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about meal planning, nutrition, budgeting, and the science behind food preparation—all while having fun and competing alongside fellow 4-H members. So, grab your aprons and get ready to cook up some delicious street-style eats that would make any food truck proud! Let’s hit the road and serve up some Food Truck Favorites!

CATEGORIES
Your recipe should fit in the theme and also in one of the following categories:
Appetizer--traditionally, an appetizer is a small dish or food that is eaten prior to the main course.
Main Dish--usually the heaviest, heartiest, and most substantial dish in a meal.
Side Dish--foods that are usually served along with a main dish or as accompaniments to the main course.
Healthy Desserts--dishes that are served at the end of the meal or for a special occasion.

HOW TO COMPETE IN FOOD SHOW
CHOOSE YOUR RECIPE.
the recipe should fit the theme
the recipe should fit into one of the four categories
should be healthy or can be modified to be healthy
age-appropriate
can you ovens, outdoor cooking equipment, or any safe food preparation
no alcohol or ingredients containing alcohol may be used
SENIORS--if baking, you cannot have a recipe that requires more than 60 minutes of cooking time
SENIORS--cannot enter the same recipe more than once
2. FOOD PREPARATION
all food displayed must be prepared before the food show and brought to the food show ready to go
you will have a kitchen area at District for limited preparation (heating up, plating, garnishing, etc)
3. PRESENTATION/INTERVIEW
see the scoresheet under Things to Know to see how the scores line out
Presentation:
Seniors--a maximum of 5 minutes to introduce themselves and their dish, describe inspiration in choosing the recipe, how the recipe relates to the current food show theme, and the following areas of the scorecard: Knowledge of MyPlate, Nutrition Knowledge, Food Preparation, and Food Safety.
Juniors & Intermediates--maximum of 2 minutes to introduce yourself, describe your inspiration in choosing your recipe, and how it relates to the food show theme
Interview:
Judges will have an opportunity to ask questions applicable to the score sheet. Information included but not limited to basic nutrition, food safety, preparation, chronic disease prevention, age-related nutrition, and project experiences.
Seniors--up to 4 minutes
Juniors & Intermediates--up to 6 minutes
4. SERVING
Judges will NOT taste the dish but can smell, touch, and visually evaluate the dish.
5. KNOWLEDGE SHOWCASE
Seniors only--will take a quiz testing their decision-making and knowledge related to food purchasing, preparation, nutrition, and food safety
no study materials will be provided
6. SKILLS SHOWCASE
all age groups will be judged on an assigned kitchen/cooking type skill
examples might be dry and wet measuring skills, garnishing skills, sorting food into food groups, setting a table, preventing cross-contamination, knife skills, etc.
